AFGC PROGRAMS
Treatment Foster Care
In Treatment Foster Care, the positive aspects of the nurturing and therapeutic family environment are combined with active and structured treatment. A child's treatment
program at AFGC consists of family therapy, individual therapy, group therapy, case
management and social skills training. Our treatment foster parents are selected and trained
specifically as a treatment team member at this level of care.
Treatment Program
Each child works with a therapist and Teen Living Program counselor to meet his or her
needs through the individualized treatment plan. The clinical staff provides services at the
Center and in the foster home. Family therapy based treatment informs all aspects of our
program. Some of the children may return to their biological families; others will need permanent
foster care placements, become eligible for adoption or move into an independent living
environment. However, all are in need of a supportive, nurturing foster home environment
with strong parental supervision.
Teen Living Program
This program is designed to help our adolescents learn the following: how to become effective
members of a group, how to allow other members of the group to help them make positive
choices, how to identify with and strive for the kinds of goals and behaviors that the adult
world will expect from them. The program is an after school program during the school year
and an all day program during holidays and summer vacation. It combines psycho educational
group learning with on site, and off site recreational activities.
Guiding Adolescents Toward Empowerment (G.A.T.E.) works with foster youth generally between the ages of 18-21 years old. The youth live in AFGC foster homes while participating in G.A.T.E.'s step-down therapeutic & independent living skills development program. Our program provides guidance through wrap around services including Foster Parent Mentoring, Therapy & Case Management.
